Requirements, Rules & Regulations
For those of you who are new to the club or those that just need a rule clarified, this is the page for you. The links and documents on this page will clearly tell you what is required of a Howard County 4-H Horse and Pony Club member. As always, if you look and can't find what you need, anyone on our contacts page should be able to answer your questions.

The official book that has the requirements in it for all 4-H Projects is the Project Summary. You can access it online at http://www.ces.purdue.edu/howard/ but it's also helpful to have a hard copy. Those are available for free at the Extension Office (120 E. Mulberry, Kokomo) and Cindy might have a few to give away also. Pay special attention to the General 4-H Rules & Regulations, 4-H Livestock Exhibit Rules, Horse & Pony Project and Horseless Project pages.

Our 4-H Horse & Pony Constitution can be viewed here. This is the motto and standards our club adheres to.

Another requirement for our club is to have appropriate clothing to wear at the arena. We do not tolerate riding in anything other than boots with a heel, no flip flops around the horses, no revealing tops and ASTM approved helmets must be worn while mounted. If everyone uses common sense this rule will be easy to adhere to.

One thing that is NOT required is health papers. It is highly recommended that you vaccinate your horse against common deadly diseases but it is not a requirement to be in our club. It is a small investment that could save you money in the long run.

Howard County 4-H purchases a limited accident policy for its members and 4-H volunteers through the 4-H Enrollment Fee collected from every 4-H member. If you would like to know specifically what is covered and what is not, contact the Extension Office at 765-456-2313.

The official 4-H clover is protected under federal statute and is similar to a copyright or trademark. As such, the 4-H emblem is to be used soley for the purpose of promoting 4-H and has certain restrictions regarding how the emblem can be used and displayed. Anyone wanting to use this emblem for fund raising purposes must obtain permission from the United States Department of Agriculture. All 4-H adult leaders must obtain permission from the 4-H youth extension educator prior to using the 4-H emblem.
